1. Who We Are
Toronto Radon Expert ("we", "us", "our") is a radon testing and mitigation service provider operating in Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. This Privacy Policy applies to information we collect through our website at https://torontoradonexpert.com and any related services.
We are bound by the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which governs how Canadian businesses collect, use, and disclose personal information in the course of commercial activities.
2. What Information We Collect
We collect only the information needed to respond to your inquiry and provide the service you request. Specifically:
Information you provide directly
- Identity & contact: first and last name, email address, phone number
- Property information: street address (so we can dispatch a technician and quote accurately)
- Service details: type of service requested, preferred timeline, foundation type, prior radon test results, and any notes you choose to share
- Source data: how you heard about us (optional, used only to understand which channels are working)
- Consent record: a timestamp of your form submission and the version of this policy in effect at the time
Information collected automatically
Our website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, a server-side analytics service that does not set cookies and does not track you across other sites. It records aggregated traffic patterns (page views, referrers, country) without identifying individual visitors. We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any cross-site tracking technology.
Information collected to prevent abuse of our booking form
When you submit our booking form, we automatically record your IP address and browser identification string (user-agent) for the sole purpose of preventing spam and automated abuse — for example, enforcing a per-IP rate limit on submissions. This information is stored alongside the form submission and is never used for marketing, profiling, or shared with anyone outside our service providers.
We also use Cloudflare Turnstile on the booking form. Turnstile is a privacy-friendly alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs that runs an invisible browser challenge to confirm you're a real person. It does not set tracking cookies and does not store your information for marketing purposes. Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
3. Why We Collect It (Purposes)
Your information is used only for the following purposes:
- To respond to your inquiry and prepare a quote
- To schedule, perform, and follow up on the service you request
- To send the post-service report (if applicable)
- To comply with our legal and tax obligations
We do not use your information for newsletter campaigns, marketing emails, advertising profiles, or any unrelated purpose. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, ever.
4. Where Your Information Is Stored
Form submissions are stored in our database hosted by Supabase in their Canada (Central) region, which physically resides in Canadian data centres. This means your personal information stays within Canadian jurisdiction by default.
Operational email — including the notification email we receive when you submit the form — is processed by an email delivery service. We will update this policy with the specific service name once email notifications are configured. Until then, no automated emails are sent on your behalf.
Our website itself is hosted on Netlify. Page requests are served from a global content delivery network; the static page content contains no personal information.
5. How Long We Keep It
Inquiry records are retained for as long as needed to provide the requested service plus a reasonable follow-up window. After that, retention is governed by our legal and tax obligations:
- Inquiries that do not become customers: typically retained for up to 24 months, then deleted
- Customer service records (testing reports, mitigation installations): retained for at least 7 years to satisfy Canadian record-keeping requirements and to honour our 10-year mitigation warranty
You may request earlier deletion at any time (see section 7).
6. How We Protect It
- All data transmission between your browser and our website is encrypted with HTTPS (TLS)
- Database storage at Supabase is encrypted at rest
- Access to the database is restricted to authorized personnel and protected by strong authentication
- We do not store payment information on our systems
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach involving your personal information ever occurs, we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as required by law.
7. Your Rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct any inaccuracies
- Withdraw consent for our continued use of your information (subject to legal retention obligations)
- Request deletion of your records
- Receive a copy of your information in a portable format
- Complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if you believe we've mishandled your information
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@torontoradonexpert.com or (343) 368-6905. We respond to access and correction requests within 30 days.
8. Children
Our services are intended for property owners and tenants. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us so we can delete it.
9. Cookies & Tracking
This website does not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics that track you across sites. Because of this, no cookie consent banner is required under Canadian privacy guidance.
The only "cookie-like" storage that may be used is for essential functionality (e.g. remembering that you've already submitted the contact form within a session). These do not contain personal information.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the most recent change took effect. Material changes will be highlighted on this page. The policy version in effect at the time you submit information governs that submission.
